Quick and Simple Alternative Christmas Card Idea using October 2021 Paper Pumpkin Kit by Stampin' Up

Welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here at Creative Chelsey. I love getting my Paper Pumpkin Kit every month and creating fun alternative projects using the supplies in the kit. Today I am sharing my third alternative card idea using the October 2021 Paper Pumpkin Kit – Peaceful Christmas. This kit comes with everything you need to make 10 beautiful Christmas Cards, 5 in two different designs. What I like to do is use the supplies in the kit along with some Basic White Cardbases and make more cards.

Today’s card is a beautiful quick & simple card using one of my favorite layouts. I am also using more of the leftover pieces from my first two alternative card ideas. This card can be created using so many different products and for any season or occasion. If this project inspires you to create something, I would love for you to tag me in any social media post using @creativechelsey | #creativechelsey or email me at chelsey@creativechelsey.com. I love creating alternative cards with Paper Pumpkin Kits so make sure to come back for more as I continue to create with this month’s kit

It is Paper Pumpkin Week here on Creative Chelsey. This is the third alternative this week. If you would like to see all my alternatives check out the playlist here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL40dV1oxpkNlYGWDJuIA9OOtm--une6Gw

Here are the extra pieces of cardstock I used for the cards:

Thick Basic White Cardbase – 5 ½” x 8 ½” scored at 4 ¼”

Real Red Cardstock – ½” x 4 ¼”

From the Kit:

Solid Shaded Spruce Cardbase – 4” x 3 ¼”

Black & White Trees – back of the cardbase 3” x 3 ¾”

Shaded Spruce Buffalo Check – 2 ¼” x 4 ¼”

Label

3 Gems

Real Red Twine – 7”

Here is a list of the supplies I used to make the card:

Thick Basic White Cardstock 159229 $8.25

Real Red Cardstock 102482 $8.75

Shaded Spruce Ink Pad 147088 $7.50

Paper Trimmer 152392 $25.00

Simply Shammy 147042 $8.00

Stampin’ Seal PLUS Adhesive 149699 $12.00

Multipurpose Liquid Glue 110755 $4.00

Tear & Tape Adhesive 138995 $7.00

Dimensionals 104430 $4.00

Clear Block D 118485 $8.50

Paper Snips 103579 $10.00

Bone Folder 102300 $7.00

Stampin' Pierce Mat 126199 $5.00

Take Your Pick Tool 144107 $10.00

1- Cut all the leftover pieces to the sizes listed above. When cutting the back of the Black & White Tree cardbase make sure you focus the final size around the trees. I began by removing 1 ½” from the top, then about 1” from the right side. Then I removed a ¼” from both the bottom and leftside. This gave me a piece that is 3” x 3 ¾” with the trees in the center.

2- Add the Shaded Spruce Buffalo Check piece at the bottom of the cardbase. Overlap the ½” Real Red strip slightly.

3- Add the Tree piece to the center of the Shaded Spruce solid piece. Add this to the card with dimensionals. You are wanting it to have an even spacing around the left, right, and top edges. There will be about a 1” space at the bottom.

4- Stamp your greeting in Shaded Spruce in the center of the label and add with dimensionals in the center of the card about even with the red strip.

5- Tie a bow with 7” of Real Red Twine and tuck it under the bottom right corner of the label. Then add 3 Gems near the bottom right corner.

All Done!

Envelope – (2) 1 ¼” x 4”

Vellum Trees Leftover Piece

Here is a list of the supplies I used to make the card:

Thick Basic White Cardstock 159229 $8.25

Real Red Cardstock 102482 $8.75

Shaded Spruce Ink Pad 147088 $7.50

VersaMark Ink Pad 102283 $9.50

White Embossing Powder 155554 $18.00

Heat Tool 129053 $30.00

Detailed Trio Punch –Corner Punch 146320 $20.00

Paper Trimmer 152392 $25.00

Simply Shammy 147042 $8.00

Stampin’ Seal PLUS Adhesive 149699 $12.00

Multipurpose Liquid Glue 110755 $4.00

Tear & Tape Adhesive 138995 $7.00

Dimensionals 104430 $4.00

Clear Block D 118485 $8.50

Bone Folder 102300 $7.00

Stampin' Pierce Mat 126199 $5.00

Take Your Pick Tool 144107 $10.00

1- Begin by opening up the envelope and removing the silver foil trees from the bottom – I cut it at 1 ¾”.

2- Then with the leftover Buffalo Check side of the envelope cut 2 - 1 ¼” x 4” pieces. Adhere these to the top and bottom of the cardbase with an even amount of space along the outside edges.

3- From the leftover Shaded Spruce Cardbase from the kit (from Alternative Card #1 - http://creativechelsey.blogspot.com/2021/10/october-2021-paper-pumpkin-kit-peaceful.html ) cut to 4” x 5 ¼”. Then tear the top and bottom to create a fun edge.

4- With the score line at the top, stamp the Tree Image in Shaded Spruce ink going across the center. Add this to the center of the cardbase so the Buffalo Check pattern peaks out from behind.

5- Round the edges of the Vellum Tree Leftover Piece with the Detailed Trio Punch. Then stamp with VersaMark the snowflake stamp over the top half of the Vellum Tree Piece. Add White Embossing Powder and heat.

6- Add glue dots behind the large snowflakes and adhere over the scored line at the top. The stamped trees should also be see in the tree openings.

7- Add the Noel die cut at an angle to the center of the Gray Woodgrain Rectangle. Then tear the bottom edge of the Real Red Cardstock and add to the back. Add this to the bottom right corner of the Vellum Piece with dimensionals.

8- Tie a bow with 7” of Real Red Twine and add to the bottom right corner of the Gray Rectangle. Then add 3 Gems.

All Done!

Here are the extra pieces of cardstock I used for the cards:

Thick Basic White Cardbase – 5 ½” x 8 ½”

From the Kit:

Black and White Trees Cardbase – (2) 2” x 5 ¼”

Solid Shaded Spruce Cardbase – 1 ½” x 8 ½”

Shaded Spruce Buffalo Check – 1 ½” x 4 ¼”

Vellum Trees

Real Red Banner

Noel Die Cut

3 Gems

Here is a list of the supplies I used to make the card:

Thick Basic White Cardstock 159229 $8.25

Shaded Spruce Ink Pad 147088 $7.50

Paper Trimmer 152392 $25.00

Simply Shammy 147042 $8.00

Stampin’ Seal PLUS Adhesive 149699 $12.00

Multipurpose Liquid Glue 110755 $4.00

Tear & Tape Adhesive 138995 $7.00

Dimensionals 104430 $4.00

Clear Block D 118485 $8.50

Paper Snips 103579 $10.00

Bone Folder 102300 $7.00

Stampin' Pierce Mat 126199 $5.00

Take Your Pick Tool 144107 $10.00

1- Begin by scoring each side of the cardbase at 2 1/8”. Then fold the sides in so they meet in the center. Use a bone folder to make a nice crease.

2- Trim the cardbases from the kit down to size listed above. Make sure when cutting the Black & White Tree cardbase that the pattern from the two 2” strips match. The easiest way to do this is to cut a 4” x 5 ¼” first then cut it down the center at 2”.

3- Adhere the 2” strips from the Black & White Tree pattern to the sides of the cardbase. They should touch in the center of the card and have an even border along the top, bottom, and side where the card is folded.

4- Wrap the 1 ½” Shaded Spruce strip around the card with the ends meeting in the front. Cover the flaps & opening of the belly band with the 1 ½” x 4 ¼” Buffalo Check piece. Make sure to only add the adhesive to the flaps and not on the back of the Buffalo Check because of the gap between the flaps, you don’t want the adhesive sticking to the cardbase.

5- Remove the Belly Band from the cardbase. Stamp the Tree image from the Stamp Set that came in the Paper Pumpkin Kit in Shaded Spruce across the Buffalo Check.

6- Adhere the Vellum Trees to the center of the Belly Band with a couple glue dots in the center where they will be covered by the Real Red Banner.

7- Add the Noel Die Cut over the Real Red Banner with glue dots. Then add the banner to the center of the Belly Band with dimensionals.

8- Add three Gems on the Belly Band. Stamp or write a message on the inside of the card then slide the Belly Band back onto the cardbase.

All Done!

How I used the Kissing Technique with the Daisy Garden Stamp Set -World Card Making Day- Stampin' Up

I created this video to share during World Card Making Day on Oct. 2 2021. I am sharing this tutorial along with many other paper crafters for a whole day of card making over on Facebook –https://www.facebook.com/events/221808406464388 check it out!

Today I am sharing an oldie but goodie – the kissing technique. I hope to inspire you to use it in new ways. I decided to use the Daisy Garden Background Stamp because the beautiful flower images make a quick and easy focal point for my card. I used the large circle from the Watercolor Shapes Stamp Set to pick up the ink from the Daisy Garden and transfer it to my paper. The greeting comes from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set. I hope these cards inspire you to create something simple and beautiful today.

Here are the dimensions and pieces you will need to create this card:

Thick Basic White Cardstock – cardbase 5 ½” x 8 ½” scored at 4 ¼”

Cajun Craze Cardstock – 3 ½” x 4 ¾”

The products I used are:

Thick Basic White Cardstock 159229 $8.25

Gold Shimmer Vellum 156471 $5.00

Macrame 3D Embossing Folder 155435 $9.00

Cork Specialty Paper 156393 $7.50

Linen Thread 104199 $5.00

Memento Black Ink Pad 132708 $6.00

Paper Trimmer 152392 $25.00

Clear Block D 118485 $8.50

Simply Shammy 147042 $8.00

Dimensionals 104430 $4.00

Paper Snips 103579 $10.00

Bone Folder 102300 $7.00

Take Your Pick Tool 144107 $10.00

Stamparatus 146276 $49.00

Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine 149653 $120.00

1- Begin by inking up the Daisy Garden Stamp with Memento Black ink. Add the large circle image from Watercolor Shapes upside down to a clear block, this will give you a smooth surface to pick up the flower image. Press the circle onto the inked Daisy Garden Stamp so you pick up some flowers and have a couple flowers that can “break” outside of the circle.

Stamp this in the bottom left area of the white cardstock.

2- Clean the circle stamp. Then press it again (without reinking) over one of the flowers that will “break” outside the circle. Use a baby wipe to remove any other images around this one flower. See video for example. Line up the flower with the flower on the cardstock and stamp. You will get a darker image inside the circle or it may not line up perfectly, this is okay.

3- Clean the circle again, and repeat for a second flower if you want.

4- Color in the flowers with Stampin’ Blend Markers. I used bot the Dark & Light Cajun Craze for the center of the flowers. And Dark Daffodil Delight & Light So Saffron for the petals. Light Mossy Meadow for the stems and veins on the leaves, then Light Granny Apple Green for the leaves.

5- Emboss the Gold Shimmer Vellum with the Macrame 3D Folder and add to the center of the cardbase. Layer the Cajun Craze behind the stamped white cardstock at an angle and add to the right bottom area of the cardbase.

6- Tear one side of the ½” strip of Cork paper and add it to the bottom area of the circle. Make sure a little of the circle is showing underneath. Stamp your greeting and fussy cut out. Add above the cork strip with dimensionals. If there is a second part stamp and trim down, then place over the cork strip.

7- Tie a bow with 10” of Linen Thread and add to the bottom right area of the Cork strip.

All Done!

Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine 149653 $120.00

1- Begin by stamping the large flower image in Crumb Cake ink along the right edge of the cardbase. I stamped it two times. They did overlap a little in the center. You want as much of the image right next to the edge of the carbase.

2- Color in the image with a Blender Pen and coordinating ink pads. I used: Blushing Bride – flowers, Bumblebee – berries, Misty Moonlight – vines, Evening Evergreen – pine boughs, Soft Succulent – leaves. Tip: After picking up the color from the ink pad with the Blender Pen, the color will be the darkest as you start coloring. It will fade as you continue to color.

3- Line up the coordinating die with the flower image. Use a ruler to make a mark at 1 ½” from the right edge of the cardbase. Make a mark at the top, center, & bottom. Line up the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine Top Cutting Plate so it covers the 1 ½” area and is even with these markings. Run through your machine. Repeat on the other flower.

4- Line up the center score line of your cardbase at 3” on your Paper Trimmer. Use the cutting blade and remove any areas between the flowers or at the top & bottom that are hanging (not part of the flowers). Do this slowly so you don't cut into the flowers. The image to the left shows the straight lines that were cut with the Paper Trimmer.

5- Add the Evening Evergreen strip to the right edge on inside of the cardbase. Add the 5 ½” Silver strip over the vellum matching it on the left edge. You should see a little silver showing through to the front when the card is closed.

6- Stamp your greeting on a label from the Seasonal Label Dies in Evening Evergreen. Use the Banners Pick A Punch and flag the ends of the 3 ½” Silver strip. Add this behind the greeting. Attach 13” of Ribbon in a “Z” fold behind the silver strip. Add this to the center of the cardbase.

7- Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to attach 10 or so Subtle Shimmer Sequins around your card.

All Done!
