Hey Chick Stamp Set & Coordinating Chick Dies from Stampin' Up! - PLUS - Reverse Stamping Technique

Hello My Crafting Friends,

Today I am sharing my first the Stampin’ Up 2021 Artisan Design Team showcase project from March 2021

If you would like to see all my projects together you can visit my blog post here: http://creativechelsey.blogspot.com/2021/03/artisan-design-team-march-2021-monthly.html

For this card I wanted to focus on just the Hey Chick Bundle which includes the Hey Chick Stamp Set & Chick Dies. Did you know this stamp set was a Sale-a-bration item from a couple years back? So you may already have it in your stash. Make sure to check and then get the coordinating dies before they are gone. They really add so much to the things you can create with this fun stamp set.

One thing that I sometimes run across is that a stamp is the wrong way! For this card I wanted the larger chick to be facing the center of the card so they all look like they are looking at one another, but the original stamp has it facing the other way. Not a problem if you know this quick and easy tip for reverse stamping. Check out the steps or even better the video below. Oh – and don’t worry you can still use the coordinating die with a reverse image, I will show you how.

I hope you enjoy this tutorials and are inspired to make something creative today.

Silicone Craft Sheet 127853 $6.00

1- Stamp all three Chicken images in Memento Black Ink. Use reverse stamping for the large white chicken (see video for tips). Cut out with coordinating dies.

Reverse Stamping: Using a Stamparatus place the silicone craft sheet down and hold with one magnet. Stamp the image a couple times in Memento Black ink on the Silicone Craft Sheet.

Add a sheet of Basic White Cardstock over the stamped image and hold in place with magnet. Then stamp the image again. This will pick up the ink on the silicone craft sheet and transfer it to the back side of the cardstock giving you a reverse image.

Then cut with the coordinating die on the correct side.

2- Color using the Stampin’ Blend Markers

Large Chicken: Light Smoky Slate along the edges and shadows in the body to create a white chicken. Take the color lifter and blend the shadows a little. Light Poppy Parade on top “comb” & under the beak “wattle” (I looked it up those are really the names of the parts) and Dark So Saffron for the beak.

Medium Chicken (looking over it’s shoulder): Light Pretty Peacock all over the body (not wings or tail). Dark Pretty Peacock and add shadows, under head- body- wing. Blend shadows with the Light Pretty Peacock. Light Cinnamon Cider to the tail- wing- head- feet/legs. Light Poppy Parade on top “comb”. Dark So Saffron for the beak.

Crazy Hair Chick: Light So Saffron for the body. Light Cinnamon Cider around the body for more color and shadows. Use the So Saffron to blend the color together. Light Cinnamon Cider to tail & head feathers, legs & feet. To add more detail to the tail and head feather use the Light Poppy Parade and add some highlights. Then add it to the beak.

3- To enhance the emboss detail in the fun shape dies press them into coordinating color ink pads before running them through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. Use washi tape to hold the die so you don't get too much ink on your fingers.

(8) Corn- So Saffron, (4) Corn stalks & (8) Corn Husks- Old Olive, (1) Hen House- Poppy Parade. Then add to the same color cardstock and cut out.

4- Place one Corn Husk on one Corn, then add two Corns to the top half each Corn Stalk. I used glue dots to make this easier and faster. See video for tips.

5- Ink up the All Wired Up Background Stamp with StazOn Ink and place the vellum on top and use your fingers to press randomly on the vellum to get a random look. Distress the edges with your paper snips if you want.

6- Add a piece of In Good Taste DSP (4 ¼” x 5 ½”) to the front of the card (any wood grain pattern will work). Distress the edges with a pair of paper snips. You can also scratch the pattern to remove the top layer and show the white underneath.

7- Add the Vellum to the center of the card with a little adhesive in the center. Add 30” of Linen Thread and wrap it around the bottom of the vellum piece and tie a bow on the left side. Add more adhesive to hold the Vellum and Linen Thread in place.

8- Arrange the Hen House and Chickens on the front of the card. Place the chickens with some dimensionals.

Then tuck in the Corn Stalks around the Chickens with glue dots.

Cut out the sign die cut from Basic White Cardstock and stamp the greeting “hey, chick” in Memento Black Ink. Cut the sign from the post and add it by the bow with dimensionals.

All Done!
