Butterfly Brilliance Stamp Set & Brilliant Wings Dies - How to get a GEODE LOOK with Gilded Leafing

Yay! The beautiful Butterfly Brilliance Collection of products from Stampin’ Up!  is finally available to customers. I made this handmade card using all the products from this suite and a couple unique techniques. The first one I share shows you how you can achieve a Geode Look on your handmade cards using the patterns from the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper and Gold Gilded Leafing. I love how it turns out and hope you try it on your next project. The other technique I share is a fun and easy way to get multiple colors in your butterflies and uses the Stamparatus, which is the stamp positioning tool from Stampin’ Up! This technique can be used with many different stamp sets and is very versatile. Don’t miss out on these great new products, the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle will be available in the upcoming 2021 Annual Catalog, but the two papers are only available for a limited time and while supplies last.

1- Tear the 3” piece of Designer Series Paper from the top right corner to ½” up the left side. Repeat on the other 2” piece. With a Stampin’ Sponge add some Multipurpose glue to the torn edge of both pieces. Add them to some Gilded Leafing Embellishment and with a clean Stampin’ Sponge remove the excess.

2- Place the Butterfly Brilliance Background Stamp on the Stamparatus and secure the Basic White Cardstock under with magnets. Ink up the whole stamp with the lighter color – Blushing Bride ink. Stamp onto the paper. Do not move the paper!

Use the Sponge Daubers and add the next color to the stamp. I used Calypso Coral and added it in the middle of each wing to the outside edge. Repeat on all butterflies and stamp again.

Last use a different sponge dauber and with the darkest color – Magenta Madness add ink to the outside edge of each wing. Repeat for all butterflies, then stamp. Don’t move the paper.

Use the Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker and fill in the bodies and antenna of each butterfly and stamp one last time. Now you can remove the paper and the stamp.

3- Add the greeting from the Ridiculously Awesome stamp set on the Stamparatus. Place the Natural Touch Specialty Paper under the stamp and secure with the magnets. Ink up the stamp with the Memento Black ink and stamp, you may need to repeat multiple times to get a good image. Carefully remove the paper and add clear embossing powder, heat until shiny. This prevents the ink from smearing as the paper has a glossy finish. Cut out with a label from the Tasteful Label Dies.

4- Cut out the largest and a small detailed butterflies from the Brilliant Wings Dies from Vellum Cardstock. You may need a shim to get a clean cut, and I also like to run it through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine twice. I also like to the the Die Brush Tip to remove all the little pieces.

5- Cut down the Basic White cardstock with the stamped butterflies to 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. Layer the Designer Series Paper along the bottom keeping the top edge free of adhesive. Trim all the pieces down to 4 1/8” x 5 3/8”. Be careful as you trim the thicker areas, start where it is the thickest and trim down to the thinnest places. Place this onto your cardbase with dimensionals.

6- Add the large Vellum Butterfly over the large butterfly stamped image by adding a little liquid glue to the body and using a Stampin’ Sponge to blend it out. Tuck it under the Designer Series Paper. Add the small vellum butterfly in the bottom left corner.

7- On the back of the saying add 12” of unraveled Gold Twine in a bow shape. Keep a knot in the middle to keep it together. Then add 12” of White Ribbon in a “z” shape on top. Add this to the card in the center of the Designer Series paper with dimensionals. Place some Faceted Gilded Gems around the greeting.

All Done!
