New Handmade Card Technique: Double Die Cutting with the Winter Woods Stamp Set

For this tutorial I show you some new paper crafting techniques. The first one is spritzing with shimmer paint to give any paper a subtle shimmer and shine. My other technique shows two new ways to use your cutting dies. I use the Stampin Up Winter Woods Stamp Set and the coordinating dies In the Woods with the Stitched Nested Label Dies to create this Handmade Christmas Card.

Here are the measurements for the cardstock needed to make this card:
Thick Whisper White Cardstock cardbase 8.5" x 5.5" scored at 4.25"

Masking Tape
1- With a medicine dropper add 2 tsp of Rubbing Alcohol and 10 drops of Frost White Shimmer Paint to a Stampin' Spritzer. Shake well
2-Gather all the whisper white and cherry cobbler cardstock (not the cardbase) and place them into a cardboard box to protect your work surface. Spritze the shimmery mixture all over the cardstock.
Let dry - you can use a heat tool if you would like.
3- Use Liquid Glue to adhere the DSP to the front of you card base.
4- Smooth out the glue and air bubbles so you don't get any bumps.
5- Add the Gold Glimmer Paper about 1" from the bottom of the card.
6- Center the large 4.25" x 5.5" White cardstock with the shimmery side up in the Stamparatus. Place the largest Stitched Nested Label die to the right side of the white cardstock and add the magnets to keep in place.
7- Take the large pine tree stamp from the Winter Woods Set and place it over the left side of the Stitched Nested Label. You want the tip of the tree to be inside your label and the bottom left side of the tree to be outside your label. You don't want the base of your tree to go beyond the straight edge (the corner where it starts to bend to the center)
8- Pick up the tree with the clear hinged plate.
9- Without moving the paper remove the Stitched Nested Die.
10- Ink the pine tree with Mossy Meadow ink and stamp. Remove the cardstock.
11- Place the 4.25" x 2.75" white cardstock with the shimmer side up - in the "stamp" area on the Stamparatus so you can get another tree image. Check the location of the cardstock by hovering the hinged plate over the cardstock to make sure the tree fits. If not move the cardstock.
12- Stamp the tree without re-inking. This will give you a second tree with a lighter shade of Mossy Meadow. Remove the cardstock.
13- Place the last white cardstock strip with the shimmer side up in the center of the Stamparatus and add the magnets to each short end. Make sure they don't touch. They can shatter.
14- Place your Greeting in the center of the cardstock and pick it up with the hinged plate. Ink with Cherry Cobbler and stamp. Remove the cardstock.
15- Place the Stitched Nested Label on the large white cardstock with the darker pine tree in about the same place before. You want the tip of the tree to be inside the label and the left bottom area outside. With the base of the tree staying along the straight edge.
16- Use some tape to hold in place. I like to add the tape where I want the die to stop cutting. In other words where the first branch of the tree touches the inside edge of the label. I just place the tape so the top edge is just above this branch.
Tip- I add a lot of embossing buddy to the sticky side of my tape. I have found that when I run it through the big shot the adhesive tends to pull off the top layer of paper, but if I remove some of it's stickiness by adding chalk dust it comes off cleaner. Positioning the die cutting plates is IMPORTANT. This determines where you will be cutting.
Start with the Magnetic Platform and the bottom cutting plate as normal. Place your paper and die on top. Your top plate determines which areas will be cut.
17- Place the Top plate so it is only over the top section of the label. The edge of the Top plate should touch the top edge of the tape placed to indicate where the branch begins to extend beyond the label. Don't go past this tape. Run through your die cut machine.
18- Next Place the Top Plate over the bottom of the label. You want the edge of the Top plate to touch the base of the pine tree. Do not cover any of the tree. Run through your die cutting machine.
19- Rotate your paper. Place the Top Plate over the the side of the label that doesn't have the tree. Do not cover any of the tree. Run through your die cutting machine.
20- Now you can remove the tape and label die. You should have cut everything except the area where the pine tree extends past the label.
21- Now get your pine tree die from the In the Woods Dies and line it up over the pine tree. Place tape over the die to keep it in place.
22- Place the Top Plate on the outside of the label so the edge lines up with the two corners that create the straight edge of the label. Do not cover any part of the label. Run through your machine
23- Remove the tape and die. You may need to use a pair of scissors to cut any little areas that might not have been cut.
24- Cut out the second lighter pine tree with the die. Like normal 🙂
25- Cut out a the branch with leaves from the Cherry Cobbler cardstock. Make sure the shimmer side is up.
26- On the left side of your greeting cut a flag shape using the top of the Stitched Nested Label die.
This give a cute stitiched look to the greeting.
27- Adhere the label to your cardbase so the base of the tree is above the glimmer paper strip and the left bottom branches are almost touching the left side of the card.
28- Add the second lighter pine tree. I added glue at the bottomg and a dimensionals at the top. Place it on the right side so the tip of the tree and the right side of the bottom branches extend slightly past the label.
29- Place the greeting so it is touching the right side of the card and is sitting above the glimmer paper. Don't adhere it yet. Then adhere the red leaves behind it and arrange how you want.
30- Adhere the greeting with dimensionals.
31- Add 3 gold faceted gems to complete your card.
