March 2014 Paper Pumpkin Kit & More

I love getting my Paper Pumpkin Kit and this month's was super exciting. Take a look below at the video showing the fun cards that came in the kit this month.



Not only do I get these awesome 8 cards, but I get a new stamp set! Each stamp set from the Paper Pumpkin Kits are uber versatile and trendy. Here is my a bright & cheery card I made with the stamps from this month's kit. It has a new twist (literally) on it. I have seen a new trend happening where you use take your layers and place them on a diagonal instead of square to the base of your card. I wanted to play around with this idea and kind of went overboard :) However, I do really like it. What do you think of this new trend? If you look close enough you can see the stamps from the March kit as background stamps to help direct the eye to the sentiment. I also used the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. I love the fun colors and geometric designs it goes so well with this new trend.

Neighbor Gifts & Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love giving little treats to my neighbors and thought I would share a cute and simple tag I made and our favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe for my friends that are maybe not so close :)

For these tags I used the hello, please take a seat stamp from the Simply Celebrate stamp set with some bakers twine. I just inked up the hello portion of the stamp with my favorite pink, Melon Mambo.

Here is the yummy recipe for the cookies inside!

Thick & Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Mix together:
1/2 C Shortening or Butter
3/4 C Brown Sugar
1/4 C Sugar
Add & Mix:
1 Box (3.5oz) Vanilla Pudding
2 Eggs
2 tsp Vanilla
Add & Mix:
2 1/4 C Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt
Make sure it is mixed really well then add & stir:
1 C Chocolate Chips
Roll into a ball & bake @ 375 for 10 min

How To Tutorial: Double Embossing

Today I want to show you how I created this card with a technique I call Double Embossing. I am going to do my best with the step by step instructions, but if you have a question about anything please leave a comment and I will answer it.

Double Embossing
This technique uses 2 embossing folders together. It is best used with one large Embossing Folder that will cover the entire cardstock and one from the Set Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folder Die. The frame will give the shape definition and a border for a stamped image, punch art, or other embellishment.

You will need:
Big Shot, multipurpose platform & clear plates, 1 large embossing folder, 1 frame embossing folder, Xacto knife and mat, cardstock, ink pad, liquid adhesive, snail, white chipboard from a pack of Designer Series Paper cut into 3 5x6 pieces (large enough to cover the cardstock).

Step 1:
Emboss 1 of the chipboard pieces with the frame. Make sure it is where you want the frame to be on your card.

Step 2:
Use the Xacto knife to cut out the entire frame (doesn't need to be perfect)

Step 3:
Trace the opening on the other 2 pieces of chipboard so it is in the same place.

Step 4:
Cut out the rest of the chipboard and glue them together so you have a thick template. Glue the cutout shapes together as well.

Step 5:
Place your cardstock in the embossing folder. Make sure the Stampin' Up logo is facing up. Close the folder. Place your template on top of the folder so the opening is where you want the frame to be on your card. You can use a little snail to keep it in place.

Step 6:
Close your multipurpose platform! Place the folder on top and use only 1 clear plate on top. Run through your Big Shot.

You should have an embossed piece of cardstock with an area that was not embossed. Great job!

Step 7:
Take the frame embossing folder and place it over the un-embossed area, close the folder. Make sure the Stampin' Up logo is on the top.

Step 8:
Place the shape template on top of the embossing folder so it covers all of the frame. Use a little snail to keep it in place.

Step 9:
Keeping the multipuprose platform closed, place the folder ontop with 1 clear plate on top of everything and run through the Big Shot.

 It should look something like this! GREAT!

Sometimes I like to add a little extra color to my embossed cardstock to help everything show up. You can do this many different ways. For the above card I used a method I call ink to paper :)
Just open your ink pad and pat it over the paper. Use more or less pressure depending on the look you want. Some people rub it, but I like to pat it. 

Now you can add whatever embelishment or stamped image inside the frame.

March Club Projects

I am loving the projects this month. I had plenty of FREE Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper (Sale-a-bration Catalog pg.11) leftover from last months projects and wanted to show how versatile it can be, so I designed another 2 page 12x12 layout. This time I used Crumb Cake Cardstock as the background and this lead a to a very fresh & sweet feeling. I tend to leave off titles on my club projects so each member can customize it to fit their needs. I hope you like it as much as I do.

 I love the gold touches on these pages. I added some of the Gold Foil Sheets to the borders and used the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum as a background for the title. Of course I needed to use the Gold Sequin Trim no project is complete without it!

I added this empty space for some journaling of the sweet moment captured by the pictures for this page. I am super excited to put some of my sweet Hazel here.

I think I must have had green on my mind when designing this card. I wanted to show this technique that I call double embossing (not really sure what its real name is). I will be posting the How To later this week. I love the simple feeling this card has and the fact that every stamp has a coordinating punch make this super easy.

Stampin' Party

This past weekend I was involved in creating some fun projects for a Demonstrator Downline Meeting for my friends & myself. We love the kits that Stampin' Up has put together and are so excited to show them off. We wanted to show their versatility and so we each took one kit and played around with it. I wanted to work with the Burlap and Blooms Simply created Wreath Kit. Here are some of the fun things I came up with.

The Kit is intended to make this beautiful wreath! I used the full kit to make this with no other supplies. The Kit is $17.95, such a steal for a fun project and a beautiful home decor item! (item #133333)

With another 2 kits I made the following projects!
This cute banner uses the 3 smaller flowers and 4 single fringe flowers, plus some burlap about 15". I also needed about 36" of the Cotton Ribbon.

Here are some beautiful box tops I made. Everything is attached to a belly band so it can easily be removed. I used the 3 largest smoky slate flowers and sniped the top flower into the center so the petals were more pronounced, then added a smoky slate fringe single flower to the top. With a little extra cardstock and boxes these were a snap to put together.

The largest flower is super big and doesn't really fit well on the above boxes, so I thought to make this LARGE tag for a gift bag. I love it and it give a punch when you see it. When I showed it during my presentation there was a Ohh and Ahh (love). I used a little extra cardstock and the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set with Banners Framelits Die.

Here are the cards I made. I needed the flatter flowers so they could be placed in envelopes, but if I was planning on just handing them out the 3D flowers would be beautiful as well. I love how the colors pop off the cards with the smoky slate cardstock background. Just needed a couple sayings stamp sets, whisper white & smoky slate cardstock and some scraps to make these beauties.

I am having a class this Thursday to make the Spring Flower Banner. I would love to see you at my house @ 7:30pm. Class fee is $10.
