Butterflies & Patchwork Background - Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin Alternative Card Ideas - April 2024

Hi Everyone and welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here on Creative Chelsey. Over the past couple days, I have shared some great card ideas you can make with one set of supplies from this month’s kit. Today I am sharing with you my fourth alternative idea using the April 2024 Paper Pumpkin Kit called Delicate Wings. If you would like to watch me unbox the kit and create the original cards or see any of my other alternative projects click on the playlist below.

This alternative card uses scraps from all three Cardbases to create a patchwork background for even more butterflies. I use a lot of fun techniques for this card and am excited to share it with you today.

Card #1

Thick Basic White Cardbase – 5 ½” x 8 ½” scored at 4 ¼”

Basic White Cardstock – 4” x 5 ¼” & 1” x 4”

Moody Mauve Ink Pad

Lost Lagoon Ink Pad

Blending Brushes

Basic Gray Ink Spot (kit)

White Cardbase (kit) – 1 ¼” x 4 ¼”

Lost Lagoon Cardbase (kit) – 1 ¼” x 4 ¼”

Gray Cardbase (kit) – 1 ¼” x 4 ¼”

Envelope Flap (kit) – leftover pieces

1- Add Moody Mauve ink to the White Cardbase strip with a blending brush.

2- Cut each of the 1 ¼” strips (White with Moody Mauve ink, Lost Lagoon & Gray) into 1 ¼” squares. You should get 3 from each strip.

3- Blend ink around all edges on each square. Use the coordinating ink, Moody Mauve, Lost Lagoon, & Basic Gray. This will give a uniform look to all pieces.

4- Add one of each color in a row to the top of the 4” x 5 ¼” Basic White cardstock. They can be squared or at an angle. You will want to add them in this order – Moody Mauve, Lost Lagoon, Gray.

5- Add the next row at the bottom in this order – Gray, Moody Mauve, Lost Lagoon.

6- Add the third row just above the bottom row leaving a gap between rows 1 & 2. The order is Lost Lagoon, Gray, Moody Mauve.

7- Stamp your greeting in Basic Gray on the 1” strip. Add in the gap with dimensionals. Add everything to the cardbase with dimensionals. You can use a darker cardbase if you want.

8- From the leftover Envelope scraps, cut out three butterflies. You can make a whole butterfly by combining the two butterflies I have circled in the picture together, see video for more details.

To combine them, glue the separate bodies together.

Let dry, then fussy cut out as one butterfly.

9- Add the butterflies in the Moody Mauve sections with dimensionals. If they have a straight edge, you can hide it under the greeting or along a straight edge.

I have also created a video walking you through each step.
