Self Standing Outside Double Tier Pop-Up Fun Fold Cards- August 2023 Paper Pumpkin Alternative Ideas

Welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here at Creative Chelsey.

One of the most exciting aspects of crafting is experimenting with different techniques. For your alternative cards, consider incorporating fun fold designs. These types of cards instantly add an element of surprise and fun to your creations.

Today I am sharing with you two card ideas that use the large flower dies from the kit. Just like yesterday’s cards, these card share the same fun fold template. I call it an outside double tier Pop Up card. I will have a free PDF template available on my blog with scoring and cutting measurements.

If this project inspires you to create something, I would love for you to tag me in any social media post using @creativechelsey | #creativechelsey or email me at chelsey@creativechelsey.com.

1- Score the cardbase using the measurements on the template. Score with the cardbase horizontally in the paper trimmer. Measure from the left edge. Score at these measurements, 5 ½”, 6 ¼”, 7 ¾”, 8 ½”, 9”, 9 ¾”, 10 ½”.

2- Rotate the cardbase to vertical position with the score lines at the top half. Cut 1” from the right side from 0” to 3 ¼”. Flip and repeat on the opposite side.

3- Cut these side flaps at 2” from the top. To create a cardbase with this shape (see image).

4- Fold the bottom two score lines and the top two score lines of each section.

5- Cut your choice of pattern paper with the measurements on the template.

6- Start with a 4” x 5 ¼” pattern piece of paper. Cut 1 ¼" from the bottom.

7- Flip to the bottom edge to the top and measure 1” from the right side. Cut down from 0” to 2”. Repeat on the other side.

8- Flip so the bottom is at 2”. Lift cutting blade into the center between the two cut lines. Cut from 1” – 3” to remove the center square.

9- Add the pattern paper to a coordinating color cardstock (4 1/8” x 5 3/8”) with even borders along the top and sides. Leave the extra at the bottom. Add this to the front of the cardbase. If you need to add a darker piece in the center to cover up a lighter cardstock color, you can.

10- Add the 1 ¼” strip of pattern paper to the same color cardstock (1 3/8” x 4 1/8”). Add this to the 1 ½” section.

11- Add the 2” square to the same color cardstock (2” x 2 1/8”) with the same size border along the top and sides. The bottom will not fit. Place it in the center panel, with the bottom fitting above the bottom strip.

12- Add Tear & Tape to the 1/4" section at the top of each section. Fold so you see the bottom 3/4" section.

Fold all the top panels down so you only see the pattern paper and adhere in place. See video for more details.

13- Decorate with the Large Flower Die Cut and greeting on one of the Banners. Make sure to cover the seam on the Pop Up Panel.

14- Add any Clear Enamel Dots you want.

15- On the back trim the flower description down to 4” x 5 ¼” add to a coordinating color piece 4 1/8” x 5 3/8”. Then add to the back of the card.

All Done!

Welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here at Creative Chelsey.

There's nothing quite like the excitement of receiving a new Paper Pumpkin Kit each month. These monthly treasures arrive at our doorsteps, brimming with creative potential. August 2023 brought us a delightful kit featuring the charming forget-me-not flowers in shades of blue, green, and yellow. While the kit itself offers fantastic cards, why not take it a step further? Today I am sharing my first alternative idea, two fun fold alternative cards made with one of the forget-me-not cardbases from this kit.

Card #1

Garden Green Cardbase – 5 ½” x 8 ¼” see template for scoring

Garden Green Cardstock – 1 ½” x 2 ½”

Basic White Cardstock – 3 1/8” x 5 3/8”

Forget-Me-Not Envelope – Kit

Forget-Me-Not Cardbase – Kit

Linen Thread - Kit

1- Score the 8 ¼” x 5 ½” Cardbase at 1 ½” & 2 ½” from both the left & right sides.

2- Fold both sides behind the center panel in a Z shape. Use a Bone Folder to make crisp folds.

3- Cut the sides of one Forget-Me-Not Envelope so you can access both front and back pieces. Cut the front piece to 5 3/8” by removing the top curve. Then trim up one side so it is straight (the side without the flower on the front). Cut two strips 1 3/8” x 5 3/8”. Adhere these to the front of the left & right sections. There will be a small border.

4- From the Forget-Me-Not Cardbase cut along the score line to remove the front flap from the back. Cut the back piece to 3 1/8” x 5 3/8”. Adhere to the center panel.

5- Add some adhesive to the top middle on the center panel. Take some Linen Thread and create a double faux bow. Place a dimensional over the center of the bow.

6- Trim around the small Forget-Me-Not image on the front of the envelope. My first cut was 2 3/8” from the bottom of the image (this leaves a nice large piece we will use on a future card). Then trim to 1 3/8” you may need to shave a little off both sides so the flowers are in the middle. Add this to a piece of Garden Green Cardstock 1 ½” x 2 ½”. Add dimensionals to the back and adhere in the center over the bow. Make sure to leave some room under the flower for the greeting.

7- Stamp your choice of greeting underneath the flower in Garden Green Ink.

8- On the Basic White Cardstock 3 1/8” x 5 3/8” piece stamp the Forget-Me-Not image in Garden Green ink. Color with Watercolor Pencils. I used Blue, Green & Yellow colors. Add this to the back of the center panel as an area to write your message.

All Done!

Card #2

Garden Green Cardbase – 5 ½” x 8 ¼” see template for scoring

Basic White Cardstock – 4 ¼” x 5 ½” – 3 1/8” x 5 3/8” – 2” Circle – scraps for stamping

Forget-Me-Not Cardbase – Kit

Clear Enamel Dots – Kit

1- Stamp the Forget-Me-Not Flower image in Garden Green ink along the left and right edges about 2” – 3” into the center. Score the 8 ¼” x 5 ½” Cardbase at 1 ½” & 2 ½” from both the left & right sides.

2- Fold both sides in front of the center panel in a Z shape. Use a Bone Folder to make crisp folds.

3- Add the front flap, Grasses & Flowers, to the bottom left corner of the left panel. Only add adhesive to the left side.

4- On the 4 ¼” x 5 ½” Basic White piece, use Blending Brushes to create a gradient from Garden Green ink to Crushed Curry. Trim down to 3 1/8” x 5 3/8”. Adhere to the center panel.

5- Stamp your greeting in Garden Green ink inside a 2” Circle from Basic White Cardstock. You can use the Layering Circle Dies to cut out the circle. Add to the center panel with a dimensional in the center. Make sure it is not being covered by the grasses.

6- Stamp two Forget-Me-Not Flower in Garden Green on some scrap paper. Color with Watercolor Pencils and fussy cut out. Separate the top 3 flowers from the bottom 3 flowers. Add them around the greeting.

7- On the Basic White Cardstock 3 1/8” x 5 3/8” piece stamp the Forget-Me-Not image in Garden Green ink. Color with Watercolor Pencils. I used Blue, Green & Yellow colors. Add this to the back of the center panel as an area to write your message.

8- Add 5 Clear Enamel Dots to the center of the large flowers in the grass.

All Done!
