Welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here at Creative Chelsey. I love getting my Paper Pumpkin Kit every month and creating fun alternative projects using the supplies in the kit. Today I am sharing my second alternative idea using the May 2023 Paper Pumpkin Kit called Exploring In Color.
This fun outdoor themed kit creates 9 handmade cards. There are enough supplies to make three of each card. What I like to do is use the supplies in the kit along with some other products and create different or alternative projects. Today I am sharing with you two simple card ideas that use the full front or back of a cardbase. These cards cut up the landscape images to give focus to certain areas with simple white borders.
If this project inspires you to create something, I would love for you to tag me in any social media post using @creativechelsey | #creativechelsey or email me at chelsey@creativechelsey.com.
It is Paper Pumpkin Week here on Creative Chelsey. This

Card #1
1- Cut one of the cardbases from the kit in half at
4-1/4”. On the front side trim off 5/8” from the top then 1/2” from the right.
2- From the larger piece cut a 5/8” strip from the top and bottom. Layer these three pieces on the 4” x 5-1/4” Basic White piece. Place them so there is a small gap between the strips and about 1/8” border.
3- Add this piece to the cardbase with dimensionals.
4- From the top sky piece, cut a fish tail banner on the right side. Trim the left side to the length you want. Add it to the bottom of the center section with dimensionals.
5- Cut 8” of Linen Thread and fold in half, adhere to the
top of the sky strip.
6- Stamp your greeting on a label from the kit, Add over the sky strip.
All Done!
Card #2
1- Cut the landscape paper down to 4” x 5 ¼”.
2- Choose a focal area. It can be large or small but
should be no closer than ¼” from the edge of the paper. Cut out the focal area
with your paper trimmer. Keep the background in tact. See video below for
technique.
3- Cut a piece of Basic White Cardstock ¼” larger than
the focal area you cut out. Layer the white piece behind the focal area.
4- Add the background piece to the center of the cardbase.
5- If you want to cut out extra design from an envelope
you can add it to the background piece. I added the copper clay envelope at the
bottom.
6- Add the focal area back over the opening with dimensionals.
7- Stamp your greeting on one of the labels from the kit in Copper Clay. Create a banner from the Mossy Meadow cardstock. Add the banner behind the greeting.
8- Wrap 12” of Linen Thread around the top or bottom of the banner, tie a bow. Add near the top of the focal point with dimensionals.
All Done!
I have also created a video walking you through each step:
