Hippo Happiness Stamp Set - Make Two Cards with One Galaxy Background plus Shakers Card DIY TIPS

Have you seen the new Hippo Happiness stamp set and coordinating dies, Hippo & Friends from Stampin’ Up? I am loving it! I can say that I normally don’t fall for the cute animal stamp sets, you can probably tell from most of my handmade cards that I love flowers, trees, leaves, birds, etc. But something about this one really grabbed me. For today’s tutorial I want to show you how to create this fun galaxy background by blending 3 ink colors using the sponge daubers. Then I offer a quick and easy tip to making shakers cards a little easier. Lastly, we make a quick second card using the cutouts. I hope you enjoy this handmade card tutorial and come back for more. I would love to see your finished creations that are inspired by this tutorial! Card #1
Creating the shaker part of the card:
1- Begin by creating a three-color horizontal blend using the Rococo Rose, Gorgeous Grape, and Pretty Peacock ink pads and sponge daubers on both pieces of Whisper White cardstock.
Blending with Sponge Daubers: I like to use a clear block to help smooth the color on the sponge dauber before adding it to my paper. Daub into the ink, Rub on to a clear block, then apply to the paper with light pressure first – then add more pressure or ink to get darker colors.
2- Using the Water Painters or a paint brush and water, splatter water onto the blends. Use a paper towel to soak up. This will remove some of the color and create a fun galaxy look.
3- From the smaller cardstock (3 ¾” x 5”) cut three windows with the second to smallest (2 ¼” x 1 ¼”) elongated octagon shape from the Hippo & Friends Dies. Make sure to leave more space on the left and right so there is room for the foam strips.
4- Adhere the larger piece (4” x 5 ¼”) to the cardbase. Then position the smaller piece on top and create a hinge with some washi tape.
5- Add the window sheet behind the openings with glue dots. Rub the back of the top cardstock and the front of the bottom cardstock with a dryer sheet to remove any static. This will help the sequins move around more freely.
6- Line the outside edge of the window sheet with foam strips. Make sure any joints are tight so no sequins can fall out. If you want extra support in the corners add a couple small pieces of Foam Strips to each corner. Remove the paper backing. Add a large pinch or two of sequins to the center of the window sheet. Close the cardbase over the front to seal in the sequins. Carefully remove the washi tape. SHAKE!

Adding the stamps and embellishments:
If you are making both cards stamp and cut two of each.
7- Stamping the Unicorn (this is a two-step stamp which means it takes two stamps to create the image)
Start with the unicorn image without the tail. Stamp with Rococo Rose onto some scrap Whisper White cardstock.
Then with the full image, ink with the same color and stamp off onto some scrap paper, then stamp over the first image without the tail. This will give you a lighter shade of the same color.
With Memento Black Ink stamp the face by lining up the nose.
Cut out with coordinating dies.
Add a little shine with some Wink of Stella all over.
8- Stamp the greeting in Pretty Peacock and cut out with the smallest elongated octagon label.
9- Fold the 6” of Purple Tricolor Ribbon in half and add it to the back of the greeting. Add to the card in the middle of the right window.
10- Add the unicorn in the bottom left corner of the greeting.

11- Cut out the “horn” of the unicorn from some scrap Silver Foil Sheet. Add it with a rolled-up glue dot between the two ears.

All Done!

Card #2
1- Follow the above directions 1-3 to get the three labels from the window cut outs.
2-Stamp the unicorn and greeting as directed above 7-8

3- On the 4” x 5 ¼” Whisper White Cardstock stamp the stars in Pretty Peacock from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. Add this to the cardbase.
4- Adhere the three blended labels over the ½” Silver Foil strip. Place them next to each other and have the middle one upside down so the color is opposite of the left and right. Add this to the center of the card with dimensionals.
5- Fold the 6” of Purple Tricolor Ribbon in half and add it to the back of the greeting. Add to the card at the bottom of the right label.

6- Add the unicorn with dimensionals in the top left of the greeting. Add the horn.

7- Place sequins in the stars with glue dots.

All Done!
