Sometimes we need a beautiful sympathy card to tell someone we care and are thinking of them. I created this card with a little extra interaction to hopefully give the receiver a little joy during their tough time. This card has a fun Peek-A-Book Door on the front. You can design a card like this so many ways once you have learned the partial die cutting technique used to achieve a peek-a-boo door. I hope you enjoy this handmade card tutorial and come back for more. I would love to see your finished creations that are inspired by this tutorial! 3- Create the Peek-a-Boo Door in the center of the cardstock with the largest elongated octagon from the Hippo & Friends Dies:
TIP: If you want to get the detail stitching you need to be very close to the cutting edge - you may want to practice on a scrap piece of cardstock to see how to set up your plates with your die machine.
• Tape down the die using washi tape (removable so it won’t tear your cardstock)
• Partial cut: Place your cardstock and die on your die cutting platforms. Add the top clear plate only over the area you want to cut. (Keep it off the top edge). You may want to watch the video below where I explain in detail how to set it up.
• Score fold line with a ruler and bone folder. Then fold.
5- Die cut 2 Ferns from the Forever Flourishing Dies in Soft Sea Foam. Place it over the stems and flowers.
• Add adhesive behind only the area that will be attached to the peek-a-boo door.
• Trim off the area that is hanging off the door.
• Line up and adhere the rest of the fern to the background
• Use the second fern in step #8
• If you need to you can stack the flowers so one in attached to the door and the other is under attached to the background. This will make the card look nice if door is closed or open.
8- Add the leaves, extra die cut fern, and a couple gold laser-cut leaves around the flowers to fill in any white space.
9- Ink the greeting in Memento Black Ink. Use washi tape to cover the part of the greeting you don’t want stamped. Stamp. Then repeat with and cover the other half.
10- Use the smallest elongated octagon die from the Hippos & Friends and cut out each greeting with your die cutting machine.
11- Add the Gold Foil Strip to the back of the first part of the greeting. Add to the front of the peek-a-boo door with dimensionals.
13- Tie a bow with 10” of Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon and a second bow with 8” of Gold Twine. Place the white bow first near the bottom left corner with a glue dot. Add a second glue dot on top and place the gold bow.
All Done!
