Creative Chelsey: How To Add Depth & Contrast to Die Cut Layers with the Summer Shadows Dies & Shaded Summer Stamps

For today’s card I wanted to showcase more Sale-a-bration items. Time is running out and I really have saved the best for last. I love the Summer Shadows Dies! I love that they coordinate with the Shaded Summer Stamp Set, which is in the annual catalog and available until May 2, 2022. But really they can also stand alone like in these cards. Here is a little tip: by adding a little extra color to the bottom layer of cardstock you can get more depth and color into the die cut flowers. Check out the steps below for more.

Soft Sea Foam Cardstock – cardbase 4 ¼” x 11” scored at 5 ½” | 4” x 5 ¼”

So Saffron Cardstock – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”

Blushing Bride Cardstock – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”

Just Jade Cardstock – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”

Flirty Flamingo Cardstock – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”

1- Use the dies and cut out your flowers. Cut both the top and bottom layer for each flower. I did three, one full flower in So Saffron, and the half flowers one in each; Blushing Bride & Flirty Flamingo. Cut out one top & one bottom leaf in Just Jade.

2- Use the same color ink pad as cardstock and a Blending Brush to add more color to the bottom layer of each flower & leaf. I did turn the leaf over to change the direction of the curve. You can add as much color to the bottom layer and you want. More ink creates a darker layer and more contrast to the top layer. Then adhere the top layer of each flower to the bottom layer.

3- Stamp the flowers from the Shaded Summer Stamp Set in Soft Sea Foam on the 4” x 5 ¼” Soft Sea Foam Cardstock. The larger flower in the center and the smaller in the bottom left corner. Add this to the center of the cardbase.

4- Add the 1” Cork Strip with dimensionals to the center of the card about 1” from the bottom. I didn’t remove the paper backing from the dimensional on the right so I could tuck the flowers behind it.

5- Adhere the flowers on the right side of the card and under the Cork strip. Then remove the paper backing from the dimensional on the strip.

6- Wrap Linen Thread back and forth to create a double faux bow on the Cork strip. Then stamp your greeting in Memento Black in on the ¾” Basic White strip. I place the greeting to the right of the strip. Adhere to the center of the Cork strip.

7- Add some Pearl Basic Jewels and all Done!

Follow the same steps to create the second card. Change placement of flowers to the other side and use a fun pattern for the background like the Beautifully Penned Designer Series Paper (156630 SAB item – FREE with $50 order). Soft Sea Foam Cardstock is 2 ¾” x 4”. The Cork strip is 3/8” x 12” and wrapped back and forth like a ribbon behind the greeting.
