Double-Sided Design & DIY Scallop Border - July 2026 Paper Pumpkin Alternative Idea - Stampin' Up!

Hi friend! Welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here on Creative Chelsey! Today I’m sharing my first alternative card using the July 2026 Paper Pumpkin Kit – Hooray for Birthdays.

The Hooray for Birthdays kit includes supplies to create 9 cards in 3 different designs, and all three original designs are easel cards. For my alternatives, I love taking those same kit supplies and looking at them in a completely different way. This month I created 10 alternative cards from one set of kit supplies!

For this first alternative, I created a pretty birthday card featuring the beautiful blue and orange flowers from the kit. I also added a fun scalloped edge, a stamped Melon Mambo border, and a little ink splattering for extra texture. I love how the soft Bubble Bath cardstock coordinates with the floral elements from the kit.

Measurements

Bubble Bath Cardbase: 5-1/2" × 8-1/2" scored at 4-1/4"

Pink with Red Plaid Cardbase from Kit*: 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" scored at 2-3/4" (original scored)

Melon Mambo Cardstock: 1" × 5-1/2"

Envelope Back: 3 Circles - 1-1/4" diameter

Envelope Flap: 3/8" strips

Card Assembly Instructions

1. Prepare the Cardbase

Score the cardbase at 4¼" to create your card base.

Trim ¾" from one side of the card front. Be sure to save this trimmed piece because we will use it later to create our scalloped border.

Now take the Pink and Red Plaid Cardbase from the Paper Pumpkin kit. Fold along the existing score line and use your Bone Folder to create a nice crisp fold.

Slide the open end of the Paper Pumpkin card base over the front of your Bubble Bath card base. Center it from side to side and adhere it in place with liquid glue.

Make sure the folded score line of the Paper Pumpkin piece is positioned as close to the cut edge of the Bubble Bath card base as possible.

Open the card and repeat the process on the inside, making sure everything is smooth and secure.

2. Create the Stamped Melon Mambo Border

Randomly stamp the Melon Mambo Cardstock measuring 1" × 5-1/2" with the two circular images across the entire Melon Mambo strip.

I like to group two or three of the smaller images around a larger circle. Don't forget to stamp along the edges of the cardstock, too, so you don't end up with any large blank spaces.

Once you're finished stamping, adhere the strip to the inside of the card, lining it up with the right edge.

3. Add Some Melon Mambo Splatter

I love adding a little splatter to my cards because it gives the background some extra texture!

Using the Dark Melon Mambo Stampin' Blend, add splatters to the front of the card.

4. Create the Scalloped Edge

Take the back side of a Paper Pumpkin envelope and use the Stylish Shapes Dies to cut three circles approximately 1-1/4" in diameter.

Cut each circle directly in half, giving you six half-circle pieces.

Next, take the 3/4" Bubble Bath strip that you saved when you trimmed your cardbase and trim a 1/4" x 5-1/2" strip. Arrange five of the half circles along the strip with the straight edges matching.

As you line them up, pay attention to where the two scallops meet. You want that meeting point to sit right along the top edge of the pink strip.

Once all five scallops are attached, you'll have a little overhang on each end. Use your Paper Snips to trim the scallops so they line up perfectly with the ends of the strip.

5. Add the Scalloped Strip to the Card

Attach the scalloped strip to the inside of the card and smooth everything down.

You now have a beautiful scalloped edge!

Creative Tip: For my original card, I used a strip cut from the Paper Pumpkin envelope instead of Bubble Bath cardstock. You could also use Melon Mambo cardstock if you want a brighter, darker pink accent.

6. Add the Flowers & Leaves

Take the leaf die-cut from the Paper Pumpkin kit. Trim two leaves away from the larger piece. Save them for the inside of the card.

Add Stampin' Dimensionals to the back of the remaining leaf piece.

Place the leaves toward the left side of the card, slightly angled and positioned between the edges of the patterned paper.

Next, add the large blue flower toward the top of the leaf arrangement with a dimensional in the center.

Then add the medium orange flower into the opening between the leaves with a dimensional as well.

Add yellow centers from the sticker sheet to the center of each flower.

7. Decorate the Inside

Use the two small leaves we trimmed from the larger leaf piece. Trim them so they can sit a little closer together. Use Glue Dots to attach the leaves to the inside of the card.

Add the small orange flower at the base of the leaves and finish it with a small yellow flower-center sticker.

8. Create the Sentiments

For the greeting, we're going to combine pieces of several sentiments from the Paper Pumpkin stamp set.

Stamp on the 3/4" strip from the Envelope Back. Use Timid Tiger Ink Spot and stamp these three greetings.

●       Hugs and Wishes

●       It's Your Day

●       Birthday Wishes

Trim the stamped pieces apart.

For Hugs and Wishes, cut it into two pieces: Hugs and and Wishes.

For It's Your Day, trim away Day, leaving It's Your.

For Birthday Wishes, trim away Wishes, leaving Birthday.

Now you have everything you need to create both greetings!

9. Add the Inside Greeting

Use Glue Dots to attach Hugs and and Wishes to the inside of the card.

You can place the words straight or angle them slightly.

10. Add the Front Greeting

For the front greeting, use Stampin' Dimensionals.

Angle It's Your between the two flowers. Then add Birthday underneath, angling it slightly in the opposite direction.

11. Add the Finishing Touches

The final touch is a sprinkling of Sunset Sequins.

I love the orange color because it coordinates beautifully with the Timid Tiger sentiment and the orange flower.

You can place your sequins wherever you like or add a few to the inside of the card, too.

And that's it! Your Hooray for Birthdays alternative card is complete! 🎉

Why I Love This Card

I love how this card takes the beautiful pieces from the Hooray for Birthdays kit and gives them a completely different look.

The scalloped edge is such a fun detail, and using the Paper Pumpkin envelope to create the scallops is a great way to stretch your kit supplies even further. I also love how the blue and orange flowers stand out against the soft Bubble Bath and pink background.

And because so much of the card comes directly from the Paper Pumpkin kit, this is a great project to make without needing a lot of additional supplies.
