Welcome to Paper Pumpkin Week here at Creative Chelsey. I love getting my Paper Pumpkin Kit every month and creating fun alternative projects using the supplies in the kit. Today I am sharing my third alternative idea using the February 2022 Paper Pumpkin Kit – Safari Celebration.
This kit comes with everything you need to make 9 Fun Safari Themed Cards, 3 in three different designs. What I like to do is use the supplies in the kit along with some other products and create different or alternative cards. Today I am sharing an amazing Pop-Up Message Slider Card Idea. I love creating alternative projects with Paper Pumpkin Kits so make sure to come back for more as I continue to create with this month’s kit.
If this project inspires you to create something, I would love for you to tag me in any social media post using @creativechelsey | #creativechelsey or email me at chelsey@creativechelsey.com.

1- Trim a cardbase from the kit to 4” x 5 ¼”. Cut the Vellum Square in half. Add one half of the square to the top of the card front and the other half to the bottom. There should be about ¼” space around the outside edge. Cut an envelope to 1 ½” x 3 ½”. Layer this piece in the center over the gap between the two vellum pieces.
2- Cut a slit with your Paper Trimmer along the bottom edge of the envelope piece. It should be around 2 ¼”’ to 2 ½” long.
3- Stamp your hidden message on the 1 ½” x 2” piece. Add any other stamped images you want. Score the bottom edge at ¼” and fold backwards.
4- Cut out the opening for the pull tab by marking the center on the back of the card front. Use a circle punch to remove a small area in the center.
5- On the back of the card front. Find the midline and line up the 1” x 4 ½” strip. It should meet with the slit. Cut dimensionals in ½” and line them up along each side of the strip or pull tab. Add dimensionals in the corners as well for support. You can use washi tape to hold pieces in place.
6- Slide your hidden message into the slit and adhere the ¼” flap to the outside of the pull tab where the two meet. Make sure you don’t get adhesive anywhere else.
7- Line up the top of the pull tab with the top of the card front and place two dimensionals at the bottom of the message. These will act as stoppers. The top of the message should still be inside the slit a little. If it comes out move the dimensionals up and trim off some of the pull tab at the top. Remove all the paper backings and adhere everything to your cardbase. Make sure everything is working before moving on.
8- Decorate with leaf and antelope die cuts. Make sure they are really stuck down so they don’t catch on the message as it moves. They should not cover the slit.
9- Push the pull tab all the way in and make a mark where you want to punch a hole. Punch the hole with a hole punch. Fold a 8” piece of ribbon in half and string through the hole. Open the loop and pull the ends through carefully so you don’t rip the cardstock. Stamp the cupcake on the pull tab and color with coordinating blends if you wish.
10- Stamp your greeting on the long label and add with a dimensional on each end. Place it over the slit to cover the top of the hidden message. The dimensionals should not be over the slit. Test to make sure it is working. Color your embellishments with a coordinating Stampin’ Blend Marker and add to the card.
All Done!
I have also created a video walking you through each step and some of the details from the other cards:
