Here are some basic tips to using your Big Shot:

Make a sandwich!
This means that your cutting plates should be the "bread" or on the outside of your paper and dies.

So the correct placement would be:
1- Platform either magnetic or the standard platform
2- One cutting plate
3- Paper
4- Die
5- One cutting plate
The next 9 images use cutting dies and embossing dies following the above placement.

I like using the Magnetic platform when using metal dies. It helps them stay in place. Which is very helpful when cutting out stamped images.
This is a die that only embosses. It does not cut out. You use this type of die the same way as the cutting dies.

The Nature's Roots dies also come with dies that will cut out the embossed leaves.

This label is from the Stitched Labels Dies I love how delicate it is.
This die cuts out this stitched pattern it is similar to an embossing die in that it doesn't cut out the shape away from the paper.

I use it on top of the large label to give it some extra interest.
See how  beautiful it is!!

The next tip goes over how to use the Embossing Folders.
The standard cutting pad has different tabs that show you the different products you can use with the Big Shot.

For the embossing folders I start with no tabs.
Open your embossing folder and place your paper inside.
Then like above you make a sandwich with the cutting plates. Then run it through your big shot only if it goes through. DO NOT FORCE IT!!

Some of the new embossing folders are thicker and will not fit! So remove the bottom cutting plate and run through. If it feels too loose or doesn't emboss it very well add a tab from the standard cutting platform or a shim.
This picture shows that I used a couple layers of paper for a shim. You can use cardstock, copy paper, chipboard, or the tabs from the standard platform as shims to give the needed pressure to emboss. Experiment with your machine, but remember DO NOT FORCE IT!!
I love how quick and beautiful it is!

Here are the steps to making the card:

Start with a regular card base. I used Sahara Sand

Add the embossed paper.

Then layer a couple leaves for a bottom layer.

Add the large label to the middle

Add more leaves on top of the label to add another layer.

Stamp a greeting. I used the "You are Wonderful" from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set. Then I cut out flag shapes on the left and right sides of a 1" x 3" strip of white cardstock.

On the back a ran a strip of snail adhesive and wrapped 36" of linen thread and added it to the back of the greeting. Then placed some dimensionals and adhered it to the middle of the large label.
All done!
