How To Layer Color with Stampin Up Watercolor Pencils | Timeless Tropical Stamp Set & Dies Bundle

For today’s tutorial I would like to share with you how I layer color with Stampin’ Up Watercolor Pencils. This is a dry pencil technique so we won’t be adding any water to our paper afterwards. I love how the pencils give me just the right amount of color exactly where I want it creating these beautiful and almost realistic images.

1- Stamp all your images with Soft Suede Ink on to Very Vanilla Cardstock. I stamped 1 large flower, 2 small flowers, 2 leaves, and the Happy Birthday sentiment.
2- Color the Large flower with all the Pink/Red tones. Begin with the darkest color in the center of the flower and keep the lighter colors to the outside petals.
Rich Razzleberry – color this in the center of the flower and bring it out
Real Red – Brighten up the center of the flower and the shadow areas
Melon Mambo – Use this in all the shadows areas
Calypso Coral – Lightly color over the whole petal
Daffodil Delight – Add some strong yellow color to the top of the middle of the flower (what is this called?). Then add just a slight bit of yellow to the center of each petal.
Pumpkin Pie – Add this to the “stem” in the center of the flower (again- what is this called?)
3- Color the 2 small flowers
Pumpkin Pie – add this to the center of the flowers. Do not color in the ridge of the petal that moves into the center.
Daffodil Delight – add a little to the top of the center area to blend in pumpkin pie. Then only to the outline of the petal. Do not color in the ridge of the petal that moves into the center.
4- Color the 2 leaves
Old Olive – fill in the whole leaf with a light green. Then add darker areas along the veins of the leaf.
You can add a little bit of Pacific Point or Bermuda Bay or Basic Gray to the shadow areas to give a little more dimension.
5- Cut out the stamped images with the matching In the Tropic Dies. Use one of the labels from the Painted Labels Die set for the sentiment. You may need to add some tape to hold down the dies – make sure to only add it to the outside of the dies and not over your images. It can pull on the paper and could ruin all your hard work.
6- On the Blushing Bride card base add the Leaf pattern DSP to the right side with a small border. Then add the Green DSP to the left side with a small border.
7- Cut 2 – 5” pieces of Braided Burlap Trim and fray the ends. Stagger them over the seam created by the DSP with some liquid glue so one is touching the top of the card and the other is touching the bottom.
8- Add the stamped images on the card. Use liquid adhesive when adhering them to the Braided Burlap Trim. Begin by adding one leaf and one small flower to the top of the burlap trim. Then slide the second small flower slightly under the burlap trim on the right and the first small flower.
9- Add the large flower. You may need to use dimensionals to support the area that is not over the Braided Burlap Trim. Place this to the left of the burlap trim and touching the leaf and small flower. Add the second leaf under the large flower to the left of the burlap trim.
10- Wrap some Rose metallic thread around your hand a couple times and add to the back of the greeting with some adhesive. (I used gold, but it is retired). Add the greeting so it is touching the right side of the card and below the flowers, make sure you can still see the frayed end of your Braided Burlap Trim. You may need a dimensional to support the right side.
11- Add some Gold Metallic Pearls around the images.
All done!
