Today I would like to share with you a new How To Tutorial using Watercolor Pencils from Stampin’ Up. These watercolor pencils can be used a variety of ways to achieve different looks for your handmade cards. Today I show you how to use them to color and create a watercolor pattern background and then how to create highlights and shadows for larger stamped images.

Here are the dimensions and pieces you will need to create this card:
Pool Party cardstock for card base - 8.5" x 5.5" scored at 4.25"
Whisper White cardstock 4” x 5.25” | 3.25” x 3.25” | 3” x 1.5”
So Saffron cardstock 3.5” x 3.5” | 1.75” x 1.75”
Gray Granite 1” x 2”

1- On the 3.25” x 3.25” piece of Whisper White cardstock stamp one of the larger flower grouping all over the paper with Gray Granite ink pad.

2- Cut the paper with the 2 11/16” circle die at the big shot.

3- Begin coloring the flowers with the Watercolor Pencils.
Leaves – Old Olive with a little Daffodil Delight in the center of each one.

Flowers – largest Calypso Coral / small Pumpkin Pie / without a center – Real Red / flower centers – Daffodil Delight

Background – Bermuda Bay

4- Use an aqua painter to blend the pencil. Blend each color separately before moving to the next color. Don’t squeeze the aqua painter – just use the water that is already in the brush tip.

5- On the 3” x 1.5” Whisper White cardstock stamp the open umbrella image in Gray Granite

6- Color the umbrella in Calypso Coral. Focus on creating depth by identifying highlights and shadows. Build up color in the darker areas and leave the white paper uncolored for the highlights.

7- Use an aqua painter to blend the color and get a smoother texture. Make sure to leave the highlights untouched.

8- Punch out the umbrella with the coordinating punch

9- Stamp the handle with Gray Granite ink on Gray Granite cardstock

10- Punch out the handle.

11- Stamp the greeting with Gray Granite ink on the smaller So Saffron cardstock. I just used a scrap piece of cardstock.

12- Cut out the greeting 1 3/8” and the larger So Saffron cardstock 2 15/16”  using the circle dies

13- Adhere the Whisper White cardstock to the front of the card base, next add the large circle of So Saffron to the top center of the card front, then add the stamped flower paper in the center of that.

14- Add the umbrella at a slight angle with dimensionals to the left of the circles

15- Add the handle with a glue dot to the center of the umbrella

16- Cut 16” of White ribbon and color on the ribbon with the Dark Calypso Coral Blend Marker to change it’s color

17- Tie a bow with the ribbon and glue it to the back of the greeting. Trim the tails. Add it to the card with dimensionals.

18- Add some sequins to the front with glue dots.
